Russia Vs Ukraine

Let's go back to 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine in February. Everyone thought it would be over soon right? Well, it's been 3 years and yet somehow the world is still stuck in it's geopolitical web.

To quickly sum up what exactly happened, the war started when Russia launched a full-scale invasion, claiming it needed to “de-Nazify” Ukraine -a statement that left historians blinking in confusion. Ukraine that was led by Volodymyr Zelenskyy turned out to be a 'war hero' as didn’t just stand its ground but also fought back. Backed by Western military, EU support, and more weapons than a Mission Impossible set, Ukraine shocked everyone by pushing back hard.

On the other side, Russia got hit with the heaviest sanctions in modern history including frozen assets, trade restrictions etc. However Putin didn’t flinch. He tightened alliances with China, started trading in non-dollar currencies, and turned completely eastward like a strategic chess move.

Meanwhile, millions of Ukrainians were displaced, entire cities were reduced to rubble, and since Ukraine is a massive grain exporter and Russia controls a chunk of global oil and gas supply, global food and energy prices shot up. The war wasn’t just local- it reshaped the entire global economy.

By 2023, Ukraine had taken back some territory but Russia had yet again annexed parts of eastern Ukraine and dug in and the peace talks kept flickering like Wi-Fi during a storm - present, but not stable. The world too, started to take support for Ukraine as a becoming political talking point rather than a shared goal.

Fast forward to 2025, and here's the gist:

  • The battlefield is frozen (literally and metaphorically) in many areas, with both sides in a stalemate.

  • NATO expanded (Welcoming Finland and Sweden ), which is exactly what Putin didn’t want. (Whoops)

  • Russia is increasingly isolated from the West, but not globally irrelevant, thanks to allies in the South.

  • Western fatigue is growing - elections, inflation,( and attention spans) are shifting the whole vibe.

The Russia–Ukraine war isn’t just about territory anymore. It’s about who gets to call the shots in the 21st century - democracies or authoritarian states? old powers or rising blocs? It’s messy and uneasy reminder that war in 2025 still looks a lot like war in 1945... but with better PR and TikTok explainers (And ofc the GenZ Globalist ;) )

Till date, there is no peace deal, no clear winner - just a world nervously watching and wondering: how much longer can this go on?

Stay tuned for Season 4?
